Greens Call For $50 Million Federal Investment in Inner-West Infrastructure.

Saeed Khan, Marrickville Councillor and Greens candidate for Grayndler, has called for the federal government to invest $50 million over the next 5 years to maintain and upgrade local public buildings and parks.

Our town halls, libraries and parks have been allowed to run down. They need significant upgrades.

Collectively, Leichhardt, Marrickville and Ashfield Councils will need to find
around $100 million for essential maintenance and upgrades of civic
infrastructure over the next 5 years.

As the federal government collects most of our taxes it needs to contribute to the cost of improving these facilities.

In October Saeed moved that Marrickville Council write to the Federal Government seeking financial assistance for Council’s Major Projects program through the recently announced “social and economic infrastructure investment fund”.

The government has recently set aside 535 million to provide such assistance for NSW councils and Greens are concerned most of these funds will end up in marginal electorates.

The people of Grayndler need a commitment from all candidates including ALP member Mr Albanese (Shadow Minister for Infrastructure) to commit to significant investment in the Inner-West.

The federal government should invest $50 million over the next 5 years to maintain and upgrade local public buildings and parks. Local councils don’t have mush cash and the alternative for local residents is to put up with rates increase.

Ask ALPs Anthony Albanese  (Federal Member for Grayndler) to make a committment before Nov 24th:

Fax: (02) 9564 1734
