Port Botany Expansion

Port Botany Expansion
Port Botany Expansion
So what are some of the major problems with Port Botany expansion?

Ø      Motorways and freight rail lines costing taxpayers billions of dollars, will be required to shuttle containers between Port Botany and the industrial zones in western Sydney.

Ø      The expansion will add approximately2,000 more trucks per day to Sydney's roads.

Ø      Noise & air pollution will increase. 50 Suburbs all over Sydney will be affected.

Ø      P&O and Patricks have admitted container volumes can almost triple to 3 million per year without any further development at Port Botany. This proposed expansion could see an increase to 8 million.

Ø      Even with 400% more freight trains, rail will still be unable to cope. Most of the containers will have to be moved by road.

Ø      The marine environment of Botany Bay will be damaged by the massive land-fill.

Ø      Sydney Airport is expected to triple its passenger movements over the next two decades. The combined impact of the port and airport expansion will be huge.
