Greens 3rd force in Australian Politics27 November 2007, 8:42am
Greens Candidate for Grayndler, Saeed Khan was pleased that his campaign slogan, ?Remove John Howard and Keep Labor Honest? is set to be achieved and that the Greens are now the third force in Australian politics. “John Howard is gone and we are extremely pleased that one of the defining issues in his demise, Climate Change, is an issue that the Greens have campaigned on for over a decade,” he said. “In a landslide election we have done very well to hold our vote and that has been thanks to the enormous amount of hard work done by the campaign committee and our volunteer members and supporters. “The Greens are set to increase their senate representation to 5 and this will see us better placed to guarantee that a Rudd Labor government is compelled to seriously address environmental concerns. “Climate Change was the great issue of this election and it will continue to be so for as long as it takes to get the results that reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.”
“Our strong Senate campaign saw our upper house vote increase by 3% and it’s heartening that the voting public are aware of how important it is to have Greens in the upper house.” “The Greens are now the third force in Australian politics and I’d like to thank all our volunteers who have so generously contributed to make this possible,” he said.
